Grading system
MMI's grading system is on a 0-100% scale. Passing grades are from 60% to 100%; below 60% is a failure. MMI has four academic quarters comprising two semesters in an academic year. Semester grades are based on two quarters and a semester examination. A student's final grade is based on the average of the two semester grade averages. Report cards are emailed to students' homes one week after the close of each quarter. Examinations are given at the end of the first and second semesters. Teachers may elect to exempt students in grades 8-12 from exams if the student earned a 92 average for that semester.
Academic Profile and College Placement
It is in the pursuit of academic distinction that MMI has made its greatest mark. MMI consistently has had some of the highest SAT scores throughout Northeastern Pennsylvania. Our average scores exceed state and national averages by hundreds of points. In 2010, the Pennsylvania state average SAT score was 1473, the national average SAT score was 1509, and the MMI average was 1702.
MMI Preparatory students have achieved great success in the National Merit Scholarship Program as well. In the past 12 years, MMI has boasted: 11 AP Scholars, one Coca Cola National Semi-Finalist, nine National Merit Scholarship Finalists, eight National Merit Scholarship Semi-Finalists, and 15 National Merit Scholarship Commended Students.
College Matriculation Record
It is because of the extraordinary interest, guidance, and education of our talented students that MMI has a nearly perfect success rate when it comes to our recent graduating classes continuing their education. In the last 12 years, 99.3% of MMI graduates have gone on to attend colleges and universities.
And, our students aren't just getting accepted into some of the nation's most prestigious colleges and universities - they're being accepted under Early Decision programs, which recognize the "best of the best."
The 34 graduates of 2010 earned $3.765 million in scholarships. One-third of the class are attending: Duke, Penn, RPI, Swarthmore, Chicago, Purdue, RIT, Ursinus, Franklin & Marshall, and Pitt Honors College. One member of the Class of 2010 was pre-accepted to PSU-Hershey Medical School upon receiving her Bachelor's Degree.
