Basketball - MMI Preparatory School

The boys basketball team is arguably the most successful of the Preppers' athletic programs. In 1973, the squad won the PIAA Class C State Championship under Head Coach Walter Greshko. En route to the state title, the Preppers also were the Division Champions and the Anthracite League Champions. The program boasts 14 scorers who surpassed the 1000-point plateau, with the most recent being Tyler Breznitsky (2005-09), who also set MMI's all-time scoring record.

Joe Flanagan is the current head coach of the varsity team. Coach Flanagan serves as the Director of the Freeland YMCA and is in his fourth season as the Preppers' leader.

The 2009-10 season was a great season for the Preppers Boys Basketball team. They advanced to the first round of State championship, farther than any MMI basketball team has gone since the 1973 MMI basketball team.

Three seniors, Connor McNelis, Tony Carrato, and Zach Haupt, were lost at the end of this year to graduation. The team will be rebuilt around experienced players Fran Swankoski and Ryan Forte who both have all-conference abilities. Aaron Kollar, George Gera, and Alex van Hoekelen add depth to the team.
