Soccer - MMI Preparatory School

The fall of 2007 marked the inaugural season for MMI’s boys soccer team under head coach Justin Vincent. Assistant coach Guillermo Lara lends international experience to the team, having played soccer in Mexico. Tim Twardzik also serves as a volunteer assistant.

After one year of exhibition games only, the Preppers were full participants in the Wyoming Valley Conference during the 2008 season. The boys soccer team plays their home games at Hazle Township’s Community Park. The Preppers won the Berks Christian Tournament in 2007 and 2008, with the 2008 victory coming by way of a shootout. Then-junior goalie Bobby Dougherty secured the win with an excellent stand during the shootout.

The 2009 season finished with a record of 2-15, an improvement over the previous years for the still young team. The team will be led by seniors Joey Hornak, Alex Sriharsha, and Mike McGraw during the upcoming 2010 campaign. Sriharsha and McGraw are the first players in the team’s history to have played four years of soccer. This, combined with experience offered from prominent juniors Ryan Twardzik and Casey Olsewski, makes the season look promising. Though the team lost several important seniors, Coach Vincent thinks they’re going to surprise a lot of people this year with the combination of experience and addition of athletic and motivated freshman. "The guys coming back are confident and getting better," said Vincent.
