JETS

Engineering, math, and science skills are put to the test each year in this very challenging competition.  JETS (Junior Engineering and Technical Society) is a national, non-profit educational organization dedicated to promoting engineering and technology careers to our nation's young people. Since 1950, JETS academic competitions, educational activities, and career guidance resources have been exciting students about careers in engineering and technology.

JETS makes engineering "real," "relevant," and "fun" by helping students discover engineering for themselves. They provide programs and resources that let students learn about and experience engineering first-hand. From exciting student competitions to assessment tools and career exploration materials, JETS helps students plan for rewarding futures by showing them how engineering can help them pursue their dreams.

JETS-TEAMS is a one-day, two-part national competition challenging high school students in grades 9-12 to work together as a team to apply knowledge learned in the classroom to real-world engineering scenarios. Competitions are held on college and university campuses across the country in February and March and inspire creativity, team-work, critical thinking, and peer-to-peer cooperation.

The test includes two sections. The first is a 90-minute exam of eight engineering problems, with 10 questions per problem. That test determines a school’s standing in the state level of JETS competition. The second section, a 90-minute test with problems extending from four of the original 10 questions, determines a school’s national rank.

The TEAMS 2011 theme is energy. The votes are tallied and the winning tagline is... Smarter Energy. Cleaner Planet.  TEAMS answers that age old question, "when will I ever use this?" by showing how math and science applications affect our everyday lives.  Dr. Gregg Bluth, Science and Mathematics teacher at MMI, will serve as the moderator for the team.
