M. Fowler, D.Ed., has been chosen as MMI Preparatory School’s new vice
president, incoming President Thomas G. Hood announced.
“I’m excited for the school year to begin so I can meet all the MMI
students,” Fowler said. “I’m really looking forward to working with
them, their parents, and the school’s faculty and staff. I know how
highly MMI values education and that’s why the school seemed to be a
perfect fit for me.”
Most recently, Fowler served as state director for the Pennsylvania
Governor’s Schools of Excellence, where her responsibilities included
developing and implementing programming as well as recruiting program
directors for the schools. She promoted the schools to gifted high
school students across the state and served as a liaison between the
Pennsylvania Department of Education and several state offices,
including the Legislature, Governor and the Department of Health. In
her role with the Governor’s Schools, Fowler also worked as the state
director in charge of gifted education across the commonwealth.
Fowler
is an online faculty member with the University of Phoenix, teaching
courses through the Internet and distance learning. She instructs
students at the doctoral and master’s level in education, as well as
undergraduate students in English literature. She previously taught
International English and Second Language Composition as a professor at
Penn State York.
Fowler has also worked as a leader at several
local schools, having served as principal of Panther Valley Elementary
School from 2007-2008 and Cardinal Brennan Junior/Senior High School
from 2004-2007.
“We’re very happy to have Dr. Fowler join the MMI
Prep faculty. Her career in education speaks for itself. She is very
knowledgeable about many areas of education and that makes her a real
asset to our school,” Hood said. “Dr. Fowler is also familiar with the
area, having worked at Cardinal Brennan and Panther Valley recently.”
Fowler
holds her Doctor of Education degree in Education and Linguistics from
the Pennsylvania State University. She earned her master’s degree in
English Education from Millersville University and a bachelor’s degree
in Government and Russian from Franklin & Marshall College.
Fowler
is the daughter of John and JoAnne Fowler of Delano. She has two
children, Katlyn Frey, 13, who will be in eighth grade at MMI, and
Collin Frey, 10.
