Thomas G. Hood was named MMI Preparatory School’s vice president in the summer of 2006. As vice president, Mr. Hood is responsible to the president for all duties and activities related to the academic and student activities of MMI. These duties include academic program development, evaluation and improvement, faculty evaluation and development, and student activities. Mr. Hood joined the MMI Administration after a 22-year career in the United States Army, including four years as an assistant professor at the United States Military Academy at West Point. He is a 1986 graduate of the United States Military Academy at West Point with a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering. He also holds a master’s degree in aeronautical engineering from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. He attended basic flight training and qualified as a helicopter pilot. During his military career, Mr. Hood served in various command and staff roles, as well as serving in both Iraq and Afghanistan in Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation Enduring Freedom. “I was drawn to MMI by the opportunity to work with young people and help them realize their dreams. Our job as educators is to provide students with the intellectual tools to be successful, and the encouragement and confidence to get the most out of themselves. MMI’s social and academic environment accomplishes this.” Mr. Hood and his wife, Mary-Lee reside in Freeland. They have four children. Billy Hood (Grade 11) and Cathy Hood (Grade 9) are currently enrolled at MMI. His son Tom is a sophomore at Penn State and daughter Emeline is a freshman at the United States Military Academy at West Point. Both will serve their country in the Army upon graduation from college.
