Grading system

MMI's grading system is on a 0-100% scale. Passing grades are from 60% to 100%; below 60% is a failure.

MMI has six 6-week marking periods in an academic year.

Semester grades are based on three six-week marking periods and a semester examination (if applicable; see below).

A student's final grade is based on the average of the two semester grade averages.

Report cards

Report cards are mailed to students' homes one week after the close of each six-week marking period.

Tests (midterms, finals, etc.)

Examinations are given at the end of the first and second semesters. Teachers may elect to exempt students in grades 8-12 from exams if the student earned an "A" average (90-100%) for that semester.

Credits/projects required

Successfully completing a major subject earns a student one academic credit. At least four major subjects must be taken each year for a student to be considered full-time.

To be accepted from the Mid-School to the Prep School, a student must have at least a "C" average (70%), be recommended by their instructors, and have earned nine (9) credits in major subjects of seventh and eighth grade.

To graduate from the Prep School, a student must have at least a "C" average (70%), and 20 credits in major subjects for a four-year period or 14.5 credits in major subjects for grades 10, 11, and 12.

Students in grades seven through 12 must have completed both an assembly project and open house requirement in each year they attend MMI Preparatory School in order to graduate.

Honors and achievements

Honor Roll - Recognizes achievement of a student's academic performance at the end of a six-week grading period. Students must have a cumulative average in all major subjects of 85.0%, have an average of 70.0% or better in each major course, have completed all course work for that period, have passed all minor subjects, be enrolled in a complete schedule of courses, and have a satisfactory citizenship record.

President's List - Recognizes achievement of a student's academic performance at the end of a semester.

Andrew J. Stofan Chapter of the National Honor Society - Membership is determined by the faculty and administrators of the school. Membership is also outlined in the constitution of the chapter and is based upon scholarship, service, character, and leadership.

Academic Profile and College Placement

MMI is the only school in the area with Advanced Placement Scholars. In the last few years, combined Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT) scores have risen from a very respectable 1124 in 1995 to 1233 in 2000.

Our average SAT scores exceed every one of our area school districts by at least 200 points - in some cases by almost 300 points.

College Matriculation Record

It is because of the extraordinary interest, guidance, and education of our talented students that MMI has a nearly perfect success rate when it comes to our recent graduating classes continuing their education. Seven out of the last ten classes have a 100% post-secondary education record.

In fact, one out of every 10 MMI Prep graduates since 1990 has gone on to study at an Ivy League university.

And, our students aren't just getting accepted into some of the nation's most prestigious colleges and universities - they're being accepted under Early Decision programs, which recognize the "best of the best."
