MMI Prep students recognized for National Latin Exam PDF Print E-mail

Students from MMI Preparatory School, Freeland, recently earned recognition for their performances in the 2008 National Latin Exam, and one MMI student, Michael Macarevich, was notified that he earned a perfect score.

Macarevich, son of Brian and Carol Macarevich, Drifton, was one of 1,062 students out of the 135,000 who participated in the entire United States, Australia, Mozambique, Canada, England, Italy, New Zealand, Poland, Brazil, Bulgaria, China and Zimbabwe that attained this honor.

The National Latin Exam is offered under the joint sponsorship of the American Classical League and the National Junior Classical League. The exam is comprised of 40 multiple-choice questions and given with a 45-minute time limit. Categories include grammar, comprehension, mythology, life, history, derivatives, and questions based on a short passage in Latin.

Earning the Summa Cum Laude designation were Michael Macarevich, and Roderick Cook, son of Brian and Melissa Cook, Coaldale.

Earning the Maxima Cum Laude designation were Caroline Bandurska, daugher of Wojeiech and Boguslawa Bandurska, Freeland; Paul Brasavage, son of Mark and Bernadette Brasavage, Freeland; Brittany Fisher, daughter of Kyo Fisher, Freeland; Tyler Fulton, son Rachel Fulton, Freeland, and John Fulton; and Joseph Gruman, son of William and Jacquelyn Gruman, Drums.
Earning the Cum Laude designation were Antonia Diener, daughter of Ian and Emeline Kitchen Diener, Pocono Lake; and Andrea Lara, daughter of Guillermo and Sandra Lara, Hazleton.

Students who were recognized for Outstanding Achievement included Maurina DiSabella, daughter of Joseph and Deborah DiSabella, Sugarloaf; Brianna Dzurishin, daughter of Joseph and Sherri Veglia Dzurishin, Hazleton; George Gorski, son of Sharon Gorski, Hazleton, and George Gorski, McAdoo; Megan Klein, daughter of Edward and Susan Klein, Hazleton; Cindi Landmesser, daughter of Philip and Theresa Zierden-Landmesser, Sugarloaf; Casey McCoy, son of Daniel and Danielle McCoy, White Haven; Rebecca Noga, daughter of Michael and Valerie Noga, Hazleton; David Polashenski, son of Edward and Jessica Polashenski, Drums; Beau Samonte, son of Enrique and Alexies Samonte, Mountaintop; Michael Sarno, son of Susan Pecora, Drums; Devon Sherwood, daughter of John and Maryann Sherwood, Lehighton; Thad Williams, son of Thad and Heather Williams, Beaver Meadows; and Matthew Yurish, son of Thomas and Jule Ann Yurish, Freeland.

Students receiving Achievement Certificates were Cassie Caldwell, daughter of David and Maria Caldwell, Mountaintop; John Driscoll, son of John and Susan Driscoll, Hazleton; Laurel Jacketti Funk, daughter of Wayne Funk and Maria Jacketti, Hazleton; Alexis Haupt, daughter of David and Maryann Haupt, Hazleton; Aaron Kollar, son of Ronald and Janice Kollar, Freeland; Gabriella Lobitz, daughter of Mark and Stephanie Lobitz, Hazleton; Casey Olszewski, son of Paul Olszewski, Weatherly, and Nicole Borland, Farrah Qadri, daughter of Sayed and Safriyah Qadri, Drums; Justin Sheen, son of Kwangsup and Chaeyun Sheen, Mountaintop; and Kirsten Young, daughter of Bradley and Wendy Young, Drums.
