MMI Preparatory School, Freeland, recently held its second Best of the Best Performance Assembly for the 2007-2008 school year and recognized six students as “Best of the Best.” The purpose of the MMI assembly program is to provide each student with the opportunity to explore varied subject areas not typically studied in the classroom. Students present a topic of interest to them such as art, music, geography or culture before a larger audience than they would be exposed to in a daily classroom environment. Each MMI student in grades 7 through 12 makes at least one appearance in an assembly program each school year. “The assembly program promotes one of the most important skill sets in virtually any career today: communication. Most colleges recognize the importance of excellent communications skills and require the development of it in their curriculum,” said MMI President William A. Shergalis, Ph.D. “Through the assembly program, MMI students are better prepared for what is expected of them in college.” The best student performances from the second-semester assemblies are presented to a joint assembly of both prep school and middle school students to determine the “Best of the Best.” For the second semester, six students presented programs that were rated as outstanding by the MMI faculty. Top Best of the Best honors were awarded to junior Adam Wisniewski, son of Thomas and Susan Wisniewski, McAdoo, who presented The History of Santa Claus. For his performance, Wisniewski was presented a trophy and gift certificate. Other students who won Best of the Best awards were Jacob Daniels, son of Bruce and Denise Daniels, Beaver Meadows, for his presentation on Animal Behavior; Joshua Kiddish, son of Anthony and Bonnie Kiddish, White Haven, for his presentation about All Terrain Vehicles; David Polashenski, son of Edward and Jessica Polashenski, Drums; for his presentation about How to Make Paska Bread; Traci Smith, daughter of Steven and Debbi Smith, Conyngham, for her presentation on Sweeney Todd, the real barber-butcher of Fleet Street; and Marianne Virnelson, daughter of Kathleen Virnelson, Fern Glen, and Frank Virnelson, for her presentation on Inventions. MMI Preparatory School is an independent, non-sectarian, coeducational college preparatory day school for grades 6-12. MMI fosters academic achievement, personal growth and a commitment to community service through development of intellectual inquiry, critical thinking and sound judgment.
