“I didn’t settle on teaching at first, but only after considering other careers; however, as I got further along in the process of preparing to teach, I knew it was the right vocation or a ‘calling,’ not a job.  I always joke with my students when something a bit ‘outrageous’ happens in class, that they better not tell anyone, since ‘I love my job.’  I do take my responsibilities as a teacher seriously because I believe I am preparing my students for life, not just imparting knowledge to them.  My ultimate goal as a teacher is to make my input into their learning superfluous – to take them to the point of total independence, where I am no longer needed and they are ready to leave the ‘proverbial nest.’  In my classroom, all students are welcome and encouraged to share their ideas and stories, to question assumptions, and to feel comfortable to be who they are. Of course, it doesn’t hurt to have a little fun along the way.  I am a mom to three MMI alumni: Nate ’03, Colin ’06, and Lainie ’10.”
