Wall of Fame Class of 2025
At three years old, Cory was learning how to dribble a basketball at the Freeland YMCA under the guidance of MMI’s Athletic Director, Joe Flanagan. From there, he joined various Freeland Y teams, earning the Freeland Sons of Erin and the Adam Hauze awards. At the same time, Cory was growing as a baseball player, honing his skills in the Freeland Little League and Freeland Babe Ruth League as a pitcher and shortstop. By the time he arrived as a freshman, Cory was eager to show MMI what he could do.
Throughout all four years, Cory was a starter on MMI’s Varsity Boys Basketball team. Year after year, his intense dedication to the sport and his team fueled the Preppers’ momentum. In his sophomore season, the MMI Boys Basketball team made it to the District 2 Class A Playoffs. That year, Cory averaged 10.4 points per game (ppg), dropped 37 three-pointers, and led the team in blocks and steals. During his junior year in 2014, the Preppers recorded their most wins since 2009. By his senior year, he was up to a 16.9 ppg average. He scored double digits in 12 straight games, with a career-high 35 points against Holy Redeemer. On the MMI Boys Basketball all-time leaderboard, Cory’s ranked 9th with 1,212 points.
As a freshman, Cory also arrived to the baseball field ready to play for Varsity. In 2014, Cory was a key member of the baseball team that won the PIAA District 2 Class A title at PNC Field. Upon graduation, Cory was honored with the Basketball and Baseball MVP Awards and the Scholar Athlete Award.
Beyond high school, Cory carried his passion for basketball forward. He attended the University of Pittsburgh and played on Pitt’s Club Basketball team, which advanced to the Collegiate Club National Championship.
After college, Cory returned to MMI as a basketball and baseball coach and substitute teacher. In the 2021-2022 season, he led the Middle School Boys Basketball Team. From 2023-2025, he coached both the Freshman and JV teams while also serving as Varsity Assistant Coach under Joe Flanagan.
From 2022-2024, he co-coached the Varsity Baseball team with Charlie Karchner ’14, guiding their team to win the District Championship title. This was the first time in MMI history that former players were able to earn this title as both players and coaches.
This fall, Cory will be getting married and starting as a Social Studies teacher in the Lower Dauphin School District.
