MMI Preparatory School’s Spanish classes, led by Señorita Syra Dewar, brought the magic of the Feast of the Three Kings to life. On January 16, Students wrote and performed a play retelling the journey of the Three Kings, sharing this cherished tradition with the entire School.
In addition to the performance, MMI’s Spanish II students spent several weeks designing, building, and decorating piñatas representing different Spanish-speaking countries, combining creativity, cultural learning, and teamwork. The piñatas were unveiled during the assembly, with voting for winners continuing through the following week.
In first place was Marissa Yamulla ’28 and Calli Mason ’28, representing Costa Rica, who made a sea turtle piñata. There was a tie for second place with two teams taking honors. Ben Drobnock ’28 and Gavin Serock ’28 represented Puerto Rico and made a piña colada, and Alviso Encarnacion ’28 and Haden Stash ’28 made a baseball bat, representing the Dominican Republic. The third-place team of Akshay Narayanashetty ’27 and Andrew Pedri ’28 represented Spain and created a guitar.
“Señorita Syra Dewar has done a wonderful job incorporating creativity and collaboration into her Spanish II classes,” said Head of School Mrs. Theresa Long. “Projects like this not only teach students about language and culture but also foster teamwork and imagination in a fun, engaging way.”
