MMI team places third in Pennsylvania Foundation for Free Enterprise Stock Market Game
A team of five MMI Preparatory School eighth grade students placed third in the Foundation for Free Enterprise’s statewide Stock Market Game. Robert Orbin, Nathaniel Neidlinger, Ethan Lloyd, Leo Zvonik, and Corrigan Nolasco finished third in Pennsylvania and first in the east region with a relative return of 23.11 percent above the performance of the S&P 500 index, which measures the stock performance of 500 large companies listed on stock exchanges in the United States.
MMI students are continuing their education with online classes and capstone assessments
When it was announced that all Pennsylvania schools must close, MMI Preparatory School quickly adapted to an online learning schedule that focused on keeping its students engaged and connected to a sense of normalcy despite the uncertain times. MMI Head of School Justin Kleinheider noted that students are continuing their fourth quarter studies with online course work in core subjects and capstone assessments.
MMI Preparatory School to honor Class of 2020 and support medical professionals
MMI Preparatory School will be participating in the Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association (PIAA) statewide program to light up stadiums and campuses in honor of the Class of 2020 and all first responders to COVID-19. As part of the effort, MMI will light up its soccer field scoreboard and the lights in the courtyard tomorrow evening, Friday, April 17, between 7 p.m. and 9 p.m. to honor all Class of 2020 students as well as all doctors, nurses and first responders on the front line of COVID-19. The scoreboard will read 20-20 in honor of the graduating class.

National speaker Becky Savage with 525 Foundation visits MMI as part of Making Smart Choices event
National speaker Becky Savage, co-founder of the 525 Foundation, visited MMI Preparatory School and spoke to students during an all-school assembly in the cafeteria as part of the 525 Foundation’s mission to educate teens and families and raise awareness about the dangers of alcohol and prescription drug misuse and abuse.
Forty-two MMI students compete at PA Jr. Academy of Science regional competition, 30 advance to state event
Thirty of MMI Preparatory School’s 42 participants earned first awards in the 59th annual Pennsylvania Junior Academy of Science (PJAS) regional competition and will advance to the PJAS State competition May 17-19 at Penn State’s University Park campus.
Rachael Betz uses 2019-2020 Science National Honor Society grant to fund award-winning research project on respiratory distress caused by vaping
MMI Preparatory School sophomore Rachael Betz earned a First Award and perfect score and was recognized with an Excellence Award in Microbiology at the Pennsylvania Junior Academy of Science (PJAS) Regional Competition at Wilkes University on Feb. 29 after receiving MMI’s 2019-2020 Science National Honor Society grant that she used to fund her research project on the respiratory distress caused by vaping.
MMI students receive honors at Mock Trail District competition
MMI Preparatory School’s Mock Trial team defeated Blue Mountain High School in a trial and had four students receive awards during the recent District competition at the Luzerne County Courthouse. The Honorable Thomas Burke and The Honorable Correale Stevens were in attendance for the competition.
Three MMI seniors receive Scholastic Writing Awards
Three MMI Preparatory School seniors received recognition in the Scholastic Writing Awards. Adam Tron won a Gold Key in the Personal Essay & Memoir category for “The Dichotomy of Masculinity and Femininity” and will advance to the national awards competition. Gold Keys are awarded to the very best works submitted to Region-at-Large programs and are automatically considered for national-level recognition. Paige Machulsky received an Honorable Mention in Poetry for “A Tourist’s Sehnsucht” and Maya Rizkalla was awarded an Honorable Mention in the Critical Essay category for “Police Brutality.”
MMI donates bake sale proceeds to Brandon’s Forever Home
Ninth grade students at MMI Preparatory School held a bake sale at the Laurel Mall on January 25 and donated their proceeds to Brandon’s Forever Home. The sale was organized as part of a community service project.
MMI announces Geography Bee winner
Eighth grade student Caylee Herseim won first place in MMI’s school competition of the National Geographic GeoBee and will move on to compete for the chance to represent MMI in the Pennsylvania State GeoBee. Fellow eighth grader Nathaniel Neidlinger was the runner-up in the contest.
MMI announces “Best of the Best” winner for the first semester
Senior Benjamin Putnam captured first place in MMI Preparatory School’s “Best of the Best” competition for the first semester of the 2019-2020 academic year. As part of the biannual competition, 10th and 12th grade students delivered presentations during an all-school assembly. Ninth and 11th grade students will make their presentations in the second semester.
