Junior Connor Spencer won MMI Preparatory School’s overall Best of the Best title for the 2020-2021 school year with his presentation on The Future of Energy in a reimagined format for the annual assembly program.

Todd Alan Schell, the valedictorian of the MMI Class of 1980, will serve as commencement speaker during MMI’s 129th annual Commencement Ceremony on Thursday, May 27. The event will not be open to the public due to capacity restrictions.

UGI Energy Services recently made a $5,000 donation to MMI Preparatory School as part of the Opportunity Scholarship Tax Credit (OSTC) program.

MMI Preparatory School captured the top three places in the virtual Luzerne County Envirothon competition. MMI’s first-place team of Darren Zheng (captain), Louis DeAngelo, Hunter Blasko, Dominique Kline, and Violet O’Connell will advance to the state competition.

MMI Preparatory School sophomore Jessica Zheng captured first place at the virtual Pennsylvania Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) State Leadership Conference and will represent MMI at the National Leadership Conference, while sophomore Manal Muhammad and junior Rachael Betz both finished in the top 10.

Seven MMI Preparatory School students placed in the annual Israel T. & Mildred Klapper Memorial Holocaust Essay Contest.

MMI Preparatory School sophomore Jessica Zheng was selected to participate in The Rockefeller University Summer Science Research Program, which will be held virtually from June 28 to August 5.

MMI Preparatory School juniors Rachael Betz and Connor Spencer were two of only 64 students from an applicant pool of 351 students from across Pennsylvania who were selected to participate in the 2021 Pennsylvania Governor’s School for the Sciences.
