MMI Preparatory School art instructor Lisa Ferry will have three of her works shown in the Northeastern Biennial Twenty Fifteen exhibition. Her works will be displayed from October 17-November 12 at the Artist for Art (AFA) Gallery, 514 Lackawanna Avenue, Scranton.
In addition to AFA Gallery, Northeastern Biennial Twenty Fifteen will run concurrently in Scranton at Mahady Gallery at Marywood University, Hope Horn Gallery at the University of Scranton, and ArtWorks Gallery & Studio. A progressive opening will be held at each of the participating venues on Saturday, October 17, featuring culinary, musical, and visual art experiences. The opening begins at 2:00 P.M. at Hope Horn Gallery and moves on to AFA Gallery and Artworks from 3:00 P.M.-4:30 P.M. The afternoon concludes with a presentation of awards at Mahady Gallery at 5:30 P.M.
Ferry’s three works “#3 The Effect – Human Trafficking Series,” “#4 As Young as 6 – Human Trafficking Series,” and “#5 Seven Year Life Expectancy – Human Trafficking Series” were selected from nearly 600 pieces of artwork that were received for review. She had three pieces of artwork previously selected for the juried Northeastern Biennial Twenty Thirteen exhibition at the Mahady Gallery.
The exhibition was juried by noted art dealer Hal Bromm, who famously opened Tribeca’s first contemporary art gallery in 1976. He established Hal Bromm Art and Design in Manhattan and spent several years between New York and London as managing director for an English furniture design studio. He also taught at The School of Visual Arts in New York City and published the award-winning book The Texture of Tribeca.
Northeastern Biennial Twenty Fifteen is the eighth juried exhibition in an ongoing series of biennials presented in Lackawanna County since 2000. Participating artists are eligible for cash, honorable mentions, and solo exhibition awards that will be announced at the opening.
Ferry graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in art and anthropology from Bloomsburg University and taught Photography and Advanced Photography at Misericordia University for three years. She has been a photographer for 20 years and traveled to Mexico on a full stipend for a photo ethnography assignment. She was also a published finalist for two consecutive years in Photographer’s Forum magazine. Ferry is a member of the Special Needs in Art Education Group (SNAE) and the Independent School Art Education (ISAE) Group and was elected a Pennsylvania Art Educators Association Region 9 board member. She is currently pursuing her Master of Art Education with an emphasis in special populations at Moore College of Art and Design in Philadelphia.
