MMI Preparatory School sixth-grade student Millie Symbula captured first place in the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA) of Luzerne County’s “Be Kind to Animals Week” poster contest.

Symbula, the daughter of Frank and Jill Symbula of Drums, received a $50 gift certificate from Marquis Art & Frame in Wilkes-Barre and had her artwork displayed during an open house Saturday at the SPCA of Luzerne County’s office in Wilkes-Barre.

The contest was part of the SPCA of Luzerne County’s Humane Education program, which reaches over 2,000 students per year through classroom visits, special events, summer programs, volunteerism, and facility tours.
