MMI Preparatory School held inductions for the Spanish, German, and Chinese national honor societies.

Head of School Thomas G. Hood opened the ceremonies and greeted students, parents, family members, and friends before the formal candlelight ceremony induction. The speaker was Robert Moyer, a graduate of Dickinson College who holds a degree in International Studies and Russian. He taught German and social studies courses at MMI in the early 1990s until he took a position with Victaulic, a German-based company.  He spoke about how his German language skills assisted him throughout his career.  Moyer is currently employed by Walker Chemical.

Spanish

New members who distinguished themselves as outstanding Spanish language students were inducted into the Pablo Picasso Chapter of the Sociedad Honoraria Hispánica by chapter adviser and MMI Spanish teacher Dennis Clarke. The students are Ali Aijaz, son of Fakhruddin and Naghma Aijaz, Mountaintop; Dana Carrato, daughter of Anthony and Carmine Carrato, Hazleton; Anirban Chowdhury, son of Bhaskar and Saumitri Chowdhury, Hazle Township; Kevin Cibak, son of James and Deirdre Cibak, Sugarloaf; Eric Degenhart, son of John and Janet Degenhart, Hazleton; Gabriella DeMelfi, daughter of Daniel and Esme DeMelfi, Hazleton; Joey Kress, son of Jessica Holliday, Drums, and Joseph and Tracy Kress, Sugarloaf; Kayla Leonard, daughter of Gregory and Karen Leonard, Hazle Township; Allison McGeehan, daughter of Thomas and Sandra McGeehan, Drums; Joshua Narrow, son of Howard and Marie Narrow, Hazleton; Kisan Patel, son of Dilipkumar and Minaben Patel, Mountaintop; Jonathan Smith, son of Jonathan Smith and Beatrice Russo-Smith, White Haven; Daniel Tron, son of Eduardo Tron and Graciela Bianco, Mountaintop; and Nicholas Young, son of Christian and Nicole Young, Freeland. Chapter officers are President Claire Sheen, Vice President Yusuf Qadri, Secretary James Gabrielle, Treasurer Mikayla Dove, and Historian Alessandra Ortiz.

 

German

Language-honor-societies-030415-7252WEBStudents who distinguished themselves as outstanding German language students were inducted into the Simon Faltz Chapter of the German National Honor Society, Delta Epsilon Phi, by chapter adviser and MMI German teacher Gabriela Moustardas. The new inductees were Evan Dryfoos, son of Llewellyn and Maura Dryfoos, Sugarloaf; Garrett Kost, son of Joseph and Natalie Kost, Freeland; Megan Marchetti, daughter of David and Andrea Marchetti, Freeland; Samuel Sessock, son of James and Jennifer Denion, Freeland, and the late John Sessock. Officers of the chapter are President Eric Kabitzke, Vice President Samanta Cottone, Secretary Sarah Moyer, Treasurer Andreas Boosalis, and Officer Brian Driscoll.

 

Chinese

Language-honor-societies-030415-7254WEBNew members who distinguished themselves as outstanding Chinese language students were inducted into MMI’s Echoes of Wisdom and Philosophy chapter of the National Chinese Honor Society by chapter adviser and MMI Chinese teacher Christina Spencer. Inductees were Charles Bower, son of Stephen and Tracy Tichy, Freeland; Sara Davis, daughter of William and Jacqueline Davis, Mountaintop; Katie Eschenbach, daughter of David and Maureen Eschenbach, Drums; Alyssa Famalette, daughter of Anthony and Joann Famalette, Freeland, Brian Galbiati, son of Brian Galbiati and Cortney Repanshek, Drums; Terrance Jankouskas, son of Aprilaurie Whitley and Terry Jankouskas, Sugarloaf; Jessica Pileggi, daughter of Daniel and Sandra Pileggi, Albrightsville; Allison Warner-Senape, daughter of James Senape and Kimberly Warner-Senape, White Haven; and Nash Wenner, son of Darren and Tracy Wenner, Lehighton. Chapter adviser and MMI Chinese instructor Christina Spencer inducted the students into the honor society. Officers of the chapter are President Tristan Gibbons, Vice President Rachel Stanziola, Secretary Emily Seratch, Treasurer Eleanor Maduro, and Historian Medina Saeed.
