Three MMI Students Selected Winners at Wyoming Valley Poetry Society’s Student Poetry Contest

MMI Preparatory School had three students selected winners in the Wyoming Valley Poetry Society’s Student Poetry Contest.

Junior Manal Muhammad, daughter of Ikram and Alia Muhammad of Mountaintop, placed second in the Young Adult Division for her poem “Blink.” Freshman Silvia Roberto, daughter of Samuele Roberto of White Haven and Tammy Roberto of Hazle Township, placed third in the Junior High Division for her poem “Longing.” Freshman Diane Kim, daughter of Chun Kim and Sul Min of Frackville, was Honorable Mention in the Junior High Division for her poem “Stardust.”

Roberto attended the ceremony, held in conjunction with the Fine Arts Fiesta on Public Square in Wilkes Barre on May 22, and read her poem “Longing” at the event.

The contest is open to students in grades 1 through 12 from throughout northeastern Pennsylvania. Poems may be rhymed or free verse and could not to exceed 32 lines.
