Dr. John Feussner ’64 is a distinguished university professor and the executive senior associate dean for clinical affairs at the Medical University of South Carolina. Until recently, he served as the professor and chairman of the Department of Medicine from 2002 to 2011. He also serves as professor in the Department of Biostatics and Epidemiology and the Department of Neurology. From 1996 to 2002, Dr. Feussner served as chief research and development officer for the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs and as director of the VA Cooperative Studies Program. He also served on the President’s Committee on Science in the Office of Science and Technology Policy and was chairman of the Gulf War illnesses research working group for the consortium of the Departments of Veterans Affairs, Defense and Health and Human Services. Previously, Dr. Feussner was a professor of medicine and chief of the Division of General Internal Medicine at Duke University Medical Center.  He has authored or co-authored more than 250 scientific publications and has received numerous professional honors and awards. He holds many national committee memberships and has presented guest lectures throughout the United States, Canada and the Bahamas. Dr. Feussner has also testified before Congress on veterans’ affairs health issues. At the time of his induction, he served on multiple advisory committees for the Department of Veterans Affairs and the Department of Defense.
