MMI announces 2022-23 board officers and new board members

MMI Preparatory School recently announced the officers of the board of directors for the 2022-23 fiscal year and new board members.

The board officers:

Richard A. DiLiberto, Jr. ‘79 will serve as chair. DiLiberto is a litigation partner with Young Conaway Stargatt & Taylor LLP in Wilmington, Delaware. He has served on the board since 2013. DiLiberto earned his J.D. (cum laude) from Delaware Law School, Widener University and a B.S. in Education (cum laude) from Bloomsburg University of Pennsylvania. A native of the Hazleton area, DiLiberto served in the Delaware House of Representatives from 1992-2002, and is currently chairperson of the Delaware Commission on Italian Heritage and Culture. Other board and community service includes being a member of the Governor’s Magistrate Screening Committee, past-president of Delaware Trial Lawyers Association, past-treasurer and past-board member of the Delaware Law-Related Education Center, and adjunct faculty member for Delaware Law School, Widener University’s Intensive Trial Advocacy Program.

John H. Hersker ‘76 will serve as vice chair. Hersker is the owner of Flashback Cinema, a company which programs classic movies in theatres around the country. He formerly served as President & CEO of Movie Tavern, a theatre chain headquartered in Dallas, Texas, and before that was Executive Vice President for Theatrical Distribution at Paramount Pictures in Los Angeles. He began his career working in his family’s Hersker Theatre in West Hazleton. He joined the board of directors in 2012. Since relocating back to Pennsylvania in 2014 he has served as board vice chair from 2014 to 2017 and board chair from 2017 to 2020.

John Slyconish Jr. ’95 will serve as treasurer. He is executive vice president and treasurer of State Street, a financial services company in Massachusetts. Slyconish began serving on the board in 2018. Slyconish is a native of Freeland who earned his A.B. Degree in Chemistry and a Certificate in the Visual Arts from Princeton University. Prior to joining State Street, Slyconish was a partner in the Finance & Risk Management Practice of Oliver Wyman.  Additional board and community service includes, board of trustee member and treasurer of the Kasiisi Project which supports the conservation of Uganda’s Kibale National Park, and the board of directors of Artists for Humanity, which provides under-resourced teams the keys to self-sufficiency through paid employment in art and design.

Anne J. Frey will serve as Secretary. Frey has worked in finance and accounting for most of her career and spent 20+ years at DBI Services Corporate office as Accounting Coordinator. Her previous experience included IT from an accounting perspective at Eastern Environmental and years in the hospitality industry. She was named Business and Professional Woman of the Year, received the YWCA Pearl Award, is involved in the Greater Hazleton Chamber of Commerce Women’s Networking Committee, and is a Hazleton Rotarian. Additionally, she served as a volunteer for the American Cancer Society Telethon, and served on the Pathways to Recovery Board.

The board also appointed three new members: Dr. Jodi W. Lenko ’99; Mr. Christopher C. Orozco; and Atty. Elizabeth Y. Spencer ’95. Board officers serve one-year terms that follow the fiscal year, from July to June. Board members serve four year terms. This year’s officers and new board members were selected and vetted by the current board through a nomination and voting process.

The board and its committees set policy, develop and approve budgets and are responsible for the governance of the school. Most recently, a subcommittee was formed to lead strategic design.
