MMI Preparatory School in Freeland began the 2018-2019 school year with a New Student Orientation program on Monday prior to Tuesday’s first day of classes for all middle school and upper school students.

Student and parent ambassadors were on hand to help new families become acclimated with MMI. During the orientation session, new students had a chance to tour the school and meet fellow students, teachers, counselors, coaches, administrators and other school staff.

Tuesday marked the first full day of school for all students for the 2018-2019 school year. A new addition to the sixth-grade curriculum is a dedicated workshop period, which allows for study/homework time, and the ability to receive tutoring from upper school students. MMI has 241 students enrolled at the school this year.

MMI Head of School D. Scott Wiggins said he was excited for the start of another school year. “We’re very excited to welcome our new students and catch up with our returning students after the summer,” Wiggins said.

In addition to a newly cleaned school building, students returned to a newly refinished gymnasium floor, and new picnic tables in the courtyard courtesy of the MMI Parents Association.

MMI also started out the school year welcoming new science instructor Melissa McHale.
