MMI Preparatory School inducted a new class of members into its Wall of Fame during the 13th annual Wall of Fame Awards dinner, which was held Saturday as part of MMI’s Alumni Weekend festivities. Dr. Robert G. Kettrick ’60 and Dr. Alfred H. Stiller ’63 were both inducted for professional achievement, while the 1993 golf team was honored for athletic achievement. State Street Corporation served as the event sponsor.
Dr. Kettrick retired in 2010 after eight years with the Nemours Foundation as the Chairman of the Professional Performance and Quality Committee. From 1996 until 2002, he was the Medical Director and Chief Executive of the Practice at Nemours Children’s Clinic in Jacksonville, Florida. From 1987 through 1996, he served as the Director of the Division of Critical Care as well as the Chairman of the Department of Anesthesiology and Critical Care at the Alfred I. DuPont Institute of the Nemours Foundation.
Dr. Kettrick served as a Major in the U.S. Army Medical Corps from 1970-1975 after completing an internal medicine internship at Temple and a residency in anesthesiology at Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania. He was a faculty member at several medical schools, including the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine, Jefferson Medical College at Thomas Jefferson University, and the Mayo Medical School.
Prior to his time at the Nemours Foundation, Dr. Kettrick held numerous hospital and administrative appointments at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia. He earned a bachelor’s degree from Mount St. Mary’s College and his medical degree from Temple University School of Medicine. Dr. Kettrick gave the Founder’s Day Address at MMI’s Commencement in 1995.
Dr. Stiller is an Emeritus Professor of Chemical Engineering at West Virginia University’s Benjamin M. Statler College of Engineering and Mineral Resources, where he has been on the faculty since 1980.
He graduated with a Ph.D. from the University of Cincinnati in 1973 and with a bachelor’s degree in Chemistry from Eastern College in 1967. His research is primarily in the area of carbon materials from coal and coal conversion. A second area of research involves acid mine drainage and mine land reclamation.
Prior to joining the faculty at WVU, he worked in the West Virginia Geological Survey. Dr. Stiller holds several patents on a variety of technologies and was recognized as the State Inventor by the governor of West Virginia, earning a spot in the Inventor’s Hall of Fame in Akron, Ohio.
The 1993 golf team was undefeated in regular season play in the Schuylkill League with a 13-0 record. They won the Northern Division, but fell short in the Schuylkill League Golf Championship to Lourdes Regional.
The 1993 undefeated team members included: Philip P. Benyo ’95, Dr. Brian W. Coyle ’94, Ryan P. Flood ’94, Mark F. Katchur ’95, Dr. Craig S. Kenesky ’96, Jim Rakshys, Joseph R. Rebarchak ’95, John J. Slyconish II ’95, Brian Street, and Michael A. Washinsky ’97. The team was coached by retired faculty member Anthony J. Gennaro.
The Preppers began the season with a win over Wyoming Seminary and then opened league play with a 10-stroke triumph over Tamaqua. The team had relatively easy victories for much of the remainder of the season.
Ryan Flood won medalist honors four times during the season while Brian Coyle and Mark Katchur each took honors three times. In the title match against Lourdes, Flood took medalist honors with an 82.
No individual team MVP was selected at the conclusion of the season because it was determined that all the players were equal contributors to the team’s success.
