MMI Honors Academic Achievements of Middle School Students at Award Ceremony

MMI Preparatory School held an awards ceremony to honor middle school students for their academic achievements and to induct members into the National Junior Honor Society and the National Classical League for Latin.

During the ceremony, eighth graders Caleb Skuba (Drums), Gabe Horvath (Conyngham), Cedrah Abdulrahman (Hazleton), and Arushi Solgama (Mountain Top) were recognized as the American Legion Award winners, which is given to the top two girls and top two boys with the highest grade point average.

MMI also presented subject awards in each grade to the following students:

Sixth Grade –Siya Patel, Math (Sugarloaf), Marissa Yamulla, English (Sugarloaf), Zachary Naugle, Visual Arts (Hazle Township), Jared Santana, Science (Freeland), Evan Polanco, Computer Technology (Hazleton), Maia Laverty, Music (Mountain Top), and Andrew Pedri, Greek (Drums).

Seventh Grade – Angelina Seeba, Math, Ancient Civilizations, Life Science, and Latin 1 (Mountain Top), Amanda Stoffa, English (White Haven), Kaitlyn Gera, Visual Arts (Weatherly), Delilah Yatsko, Computer Technology (Drums), and Philip Benyo, Music (Drums).

Eighth Grade – Cedrah Abdulrahman, Government and Visual Arts (Hazleton), Serena Novotney, English (Freeland), Erica Schwear, Pre-Algebra and Music (Sugarloaf).

Serena Novotney (Freeland) was honored for her placement in The Israel T. Mildred Klapper Memorial Holocaust Essay Contest, and Arushi Solgama (Mountain Top) was honored for her placement in the Mathcounts competition.

Marissa Yamulla (Sugarloaf) was honored for placing first in MMI’s Sixth Grade Science Fair for her presentation entitled “What Color Are Your Lungs?” Zachary Naugle (Hazle Township) finished second for “Bacteria Growth inside a Home: Types and Amounts.” Jared Santana (Freeland) was third with “Natural vs. Artificial Light: Phototropism in Plants.” Gabriella Carsia (Sugarloaf) and Jackson Moore (Hazleton) were given Honorable Mentions.

Students inducted into the National Junior Classical League for Latin were: Frederick Blaine (Weatherly), Jozef Dovicak (White Haven), Ava Genetti (Sugarloaf), Nora Herseim (Hazle Township), Gabriel Horvath (Conyngham), Ruth Huey (Drums), Alena Lombardo (Ebervale), Joseph Mayernik (Freeland), Cassidy McDermott (White Haven), Serena Novotney (Freeland), Yeleiny Paniagua ( West Hazleton), Sharan Parikh (Mountain Top), Rishi Patel (Drums), Erica Schwear (Sugarloaf), Caleb Skuba (Drums), Arushi Solgama (Mountain Top), Jayden Unger (Conyngham), David Yamulla (Sugarloaf), and Madelyn Young (Freeland).
