Tyler Breznitsky ’09 is the most prolific scorer in MMI boys’ basketball history, ranking as the School’s all-time leader with 1,900 points after averaging 21 points per game over his four-year career as a Prepper. As a freshman guard for MMI Head Coach Joe Flanagan, he led the 2005-2006 Wyoming Valley Conference with 19 points per game, outscoring many seniors at schools including Hazleton Area, Crestwood, and G.A.R. He surpassed the 1,000-point career mark as a junior and then broke the MMI all-time scoring record as a senior with 36 points in a January game against Weatherly. When he became the all-time leading scorer, he eclipsed the 36-year record of 1,644 set by Jim Lundy ‘73 during a career capped by the 1973 Class C State Basketball Title.

By his senior year, Tyler had helped raise the Preppers’ game to the point that they won 13 games, finished runner-up to Old Forge in the District 2 Class A Championship, and qualified for the state tournament for the first time since the magical run to the Championship in 1973. For his stellar play, averaging 19.2 points per game as a senior, Tyler was named the Wyoming Valley Conference Division 4 Most Valuable Player, a member of the Standard-Speaker All-Area Team for the fourth consecutive year, and a third-team selection to the Pennsylvania Sports Writers Class A All-State Team.
Tyler continued his basketball career at Wilkes University, where be played guard for the Colonels for four years, under Coach Jerry Rickrode. The team reached the Middle Atlantic Conference Championship Game when he was a junior. He averaged approximately 12 points per game at Wilkes, scoring more than 800 career points for the Colonels.

Tyler graduated from Wilkes University in 2013, and continued his education at New England School of Law, where he earned his Juris Doctor degree in 2016. He went on to serve as a field representative for U.S. Rep. Lou Barletta, of Hazleton. He is currently working as an attorney advisor for the Social Security Administration.
