MMI to hold Entrance Exam January 31

MMI Preparatory School will offer its Entrance Examination on Saturday, January 31, beginning at 9:00 A.M. The exam is for students who will enter grades six through 11 next year and are considering attending MMI Preparatory School.

MMI Preparatory School recently held its annual Spanish 2 Piñata contest. The contest continues the Spanish tradition of constructing papier-mâché figures for children’s celebrations, birthdays, holidays and traditional festivals.

MMI Preparatory School sophomore Garrett Kost was chosen as this year’s MMI recipient of the Prudential Spirit of Community Award, a nationwide program that recognizes middle level and high school students for volunteer work in their communities.

Seniors Emily Bogansky and Benjamin Gittleman, seated center, were crowned queen and king of MMI Preparatory School’s 2014 Harvest Dance by PFO representative Theresa Zellner and MMI Head of School Thomas G. The theme for this year’s dance was “Night Under the Stars.”

Sheen recognized by scholarship program

Claire Sheen, a senior at MMI, has been notified she is a Semifinalist in the 2015 National Merit Scholarship Program. Sheen is one of the academically talented high school seniors who have an opportunity to continue in the competition for some 7,600 National Merit Scholarships worth about $33 million that will be offered next spring.

MMI teacher’s novel earns award

Jennifer Novotney, a teacher at MMI Preparatory School, has received an award for her recently published novel. Her first novel, Winter in the Soul, won a bronze 2014 Moonbeam Children’s Book Award in the young adult category. The contest judges the work of authors, illustrators and publishers of children’s books distributed in North America.

Student named National American Miss Pennsylvania

Jacqueline Snyder, a student at MMI, earned the title of the 2014 National American Miss Pennsylvania at the state pageant held August 10. She will attend the national pageant in Anaheim, California, at Disneyland during the week of Thanksgiving as Pennsylvania’s representative. During the pageant, she will have the opportunity to win her share of more than half a million dollars in cash and prizes.

Congressman Lou Barletta visited MMI on Thursday morning, speaking to an assembly of eighth- to 12th-grade students. He discussed a variety of topics, including his plan to run government like a business to save money. MMI awards inaugural Feussner scholarship

A new scholarship has been established at MMI Preparatory School with the first recipient selected this year. The Roy and Dorothy Feussner Endowed Scholarship was established in 2014 by Dr. John R. Feussner ’64, Mrs. Patricia A. Morse, Mr. Gregory G. Feussner and Mr. Ronald A. Feussner ’70 in honor of their parents. The Feussners are the proprietors of Feussner Ford in Freeland.
