Becky Savage of 525 Foundation visits MMI

National speaker Becky Savage, co-founder of the 525 Foundation, visited MMI Preparatory School and spoke to students during an all-school assembly in the cafeteria as part of the 525 Foundation’s mission to educate teens and families and raise awareness about the dangers of alcohol and prescription drug misuse and abuse.

The MMI Parents Association brought Savage in as part of their “Making Smart Choices” event, where multiple agencies were available after the talk to address issues with students such as impaired and distracted driving, smoking and vaping, domestic violence, and more. Participating agencies included: Lehigh Valley Health Network with Distracted Driving Simulators, PA State Police, Pathway to Recovery, Communities that Care, Northeast Highway Safety Program, Earley-Polli Insurance Agency, Aetna, Domestic Violence Service Center, and LVHN Physician Dr. Candice Widuch-Mert.
Becky Savage’s two teenage sons – Nick and Jack – accidentally overdosed on a deadly cocktail of alcohol and prescription drugs, on the same night, in June 2015. Becky and her husband, Mike, turned their unimaginable grief into a powerful message: educating students, parents, lawmakers, and anyone else who will listen about the dangers of prescription drugs. The couple created 525 Foundation with a goal of preventing another family from experiencing the pain the Savage family still struggles with every day.

Savage also addressed the Parents Association at their bimonthly meeting later that evening.
